SALEM, Hawaii, July 24, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Viagra as the first oral drug in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, according to the latest results of a clinical study.
The findings, published in theJournal of Urology, are likely to be a major surprise to many physicians and patients who are looking for ways to treat a condition that is known to cause erectile dysfunction. The FDA has approved Viagra in the United States for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and it has been available in the United States since at least 2011.
"The FDA has taken several steps in recent years to approve Viagra, which is currently in the approved form," said Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
